October Highlights

by Michele Pesula Kuegler on October 7th, 2013

OctoberWe may be seven days into the month, but it is only the first Monday in October.  Here in New Hampshire, the nights are colder, and the leaves are turning brilliant shades of orange, yellow, and red.  Pumpkins are everywhere- decorating homes and appearing in almost food and beverage available.  I love this time of year.  The days are warm enough that there’s no need for multiple layers of clothes, but the nights have a delightful chill to them.  Perfect for sleeping with the window cracked and an extra blanket.

At PKP, we are embracing October in many different ways.

  • ‘Bout Books– For many children (and adults), October is all about Halloween.  This month we will be reviewing an assortment of books, both fiction and nonfiction, children’s and adult literature, in hopes of helping you find the perfect seasonal read.
  • Health Eagle– Probably one of the best known monthly health observances is breast cancer awareness.  We, too, will be covering this important health topic, sharing the latest data and educating our audience.
  • Outdoors Eagle– Our destination for October is right in my backyard.  Lake Winnipesaukee is a great place for boating, fishing, hiking, and more.  Plus, at this time of year, the foliage is simply breath taking.

For me personally, I look forward to the delights of October.  The scent of mulled cider simmering on our store.  The taste of a crisp apple, freshly picked at a local orchard.  The warm flicker of a candle in our living room on a cool evening.  The cheers of the crowd at the local high school football game.  The comfort of fuzzy socks on a chilly weekend morning.

October holds so much to enjoy.  Be sure to take some time to savor it.
