Meet the Team- James Maynard

by Michele Pesula Kuegler on January 27th, 2014

shel_zoeJames Maynard has been writing for PeKu for almost two years.  Over this period of time, he has covered an interesting array of topics, everything from NASCAR to pets to fitness.  Whatever the topic, James provides our readers with a great wealth of information, quite often with a bit of humor infused as well.

Please allow me to introduce you to James.

MPK: You write for a handful of our publications.  Which is your favorite to write for?

JM: The first Peku Publications Web site for which I wrote was FlickRev.com. I still think writing movie reviews was my favorite. I have a bit of Jay Sherman in my heart. If I had more free time to watch movies, I’d love to still be writing reviews.

MPK: You are a regular columnist at Couch Tuber.  Do you have a favorite television show?

JM: After being at least as obsessed as everyone else with Breaking Bad, my current favorite series is Orange is the New Black. I was a fan of Star Trek: Voyager and That 70’s Show, so how could I resist? Kate Mulgrew and Laura Prepon provided the best acting on those series.

MPK: You also write at Feathers Fins and Fur.  Are you a pet owner?

JM: Except for some fish, it has been several years since I have adopted a pet of my own. Yet, animals keep adopting me. Currently, I live with a cat and dog, and the feline, Zoe, is usually within a few feet of me as I write.

MPK: When you aren’t writing articles, what do you like to do with your free time?

JM: I write full time and go to school half-time. What is this “free time” of which you speak? I actually love to write (yikes!) songs, mainly comedy. I play guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele and drums. Music is what keeps this writer as stable as possible. Cooking is another love of mine – I’ve been creating dishes since I was a child.

MPK: What fun fact would our readers be interested to learn about you?

JM: While other kids were running lemonade stands to make pocket money, I put together my own “science magazine,” when I was 10 years old. I wrote one-or-two paragraph-long stories from what I read. My mother made copies at work, and I would walk around my neighborhood, selling copies and “subscriptions” to the neighbors. I probably would have made more money with a lemonade stand.
