With the start of the elite women’s group, the 118th Boston Marathon began approximately half an hour ago. Sitting at the office, the marathon is playing on the television instead of the regular business news shows. As it does on many Marathon Mondays, conversation turns to running.
A colleague at the office asked if I ever had run a marathon. I laughed politely. Even though I workout faithfully, six days a week, I don’t consider myself to be a runner of any form or fashion. I haven’t even run a 5k. I use running as a part of interval training. I always assume that if I were to attempt a run of several miles I would become bored.
However, why should I make that decision and not try? I love a challenge, a new obstacle to conquer. When I left my career as a teacher, I was facing the challenge of building a publishing company with a background that involved neither publishing nor business. Yet, every day I have worked to make PeKu bigger, better, more refined.
Challenges are beneficial in all facets of our life. It makes us grow, expand our horizons, gain new skills and knowledge. On this Marathon Monday, as I admire those able to complete a 26.2 mile run, I will be considering what new challenges I should undertake.
How about you?
