Just a Little Tweak

by Michele Pesula Kuegler on February 17th, 2014

couchI find it to be amazing what a difference a small change can make.  Last weekend my husband and I rearranged our living room.  We didn’t add any new pieces, didn’t even change throw pillows or blankets.  Yet, when our teenaged children came home from an afternoon out, they both remarked on the new layout.  Rather than heading to various parts of the house, as is the norm, they came to the living room and took seats in the room.  Both were excited about the new look and feel of the room.  Although I thought the change would be good, I didn’t expect such a robust reaction.

The same is true for the recent PeKu redesign.  Both the corporate logo and layout of the PeKu homepage were refreshed.  I expected to hear an occasional, “You’ve changed the design” or “Nice look!”  However, what I have received are an overwhelming amount of “Wow!”, “Looks terrific!”, and “Great update!”  Much like the reaction from my children, I didn’t expect such a strong reaction from our readers and colleagues.

What I am learning from this is that it is good to check on the little things.  Even though we redesign all of our publications regularly, it may be the little tweaks that are more important.  There isn’t necessarily the need to totally redo a publication (or room) when just a little polishing will do just as well.

So, as I’m hopping around our publications, I will be thinking about what little changes could make big improvements.  Who knows what change will be next?
